Perth Museum counts half a million visitors since 2024 opening

Perth Museum has welcomed half a million visitors in 27 months since opening in March 2024, exceeding its visitor target.

Perth Museum has welcomed its 500,000th visitor, 27 months after opening in March 2024.

The museum’s 500,000th visitors were Mary Drew and Susan Kendall from Norwich, who received a gift bag of souvenirs to mark the occasion.

When the museum opened at the end of March 2024, it was hoped it would attract 167,000 visitors a year. Perth and Kinross Council leader Councillor Eric Drysdale said this target had been exceeded.

Drysdale said it was “testament to the vision behind the transformation of the former City Hall, the dedication of the team at Culture Perth and Kinross and, of course, the ongoing support of our communities.”

The museum is managed by the charitable trust Culture Perth and Kinross, which is marking its tenth anniversary this year.

Sandie Dawe, co-chair of the trust’s board, added: “We are delighted to celebrate Perth Museum welcoming over half a million visitors this week, an extraordinary milestone made even more meaningful by the incredible support of communities, residents, schools, partners, and visitors from further afield.”

The museum is home to the Stone of Destiny, which returned to Perthshire in 2024 after 700 years and has been seen by more than 140,000 visitors.

Earlier this year, the museum hosted The Last Letter of Mary, Queen of Scots on loan from the National Library of Scotland, which was seen by more than 34,000 people. Its current exhibition, Vennels: Perth’s Little Streets, runs until 6 September 2026.
