Our studio has emerged as a partner in transforming Saudi Arabia’s cultural landscape, directly implementing the goals of the national Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 program. Lumotion Studio as an immersive experience agency, deploy immersive technologies and digital storytelling to turn traditional heritage preservation into an engaging, modern experience, establishing innovative spaces in Tabuk and Al Jouf. The studio was specifically tasked with blending digital storytelling with real-world engagement for both projects.
Interactive Museum Tabuk: A Digital Bridge to History
The Interactive Museum Tabuk project is a prime example of fusing technology and culture, attracting visitors of all ages. In collaboration with Samaya Investment Company and the Ministry of Tourism and National Heritage, Lumotion Studio integrated a series of high-tech installations:
- Interactive Digital Book: A unique experience allowing visitors to explore cultural content by “turning” virtual pages with their hands.
- Interactive Wall: A surface that responds to user interactions in real time, displaying digital content on a large LG touchscreen surface.
- Interactive Sandbox: An installation that uses white sand as a projection screen, with a topographic map image projected onto the surface, incorporating depth sensors.
- 3D Mapped Wall and 360° Video Show: Dynamic visual displays created using Epson projectors to deliver combined 360 projection mapping and panoramic video content.
Interactive Museum Al Jouf: 1,200 m² of Digital Immersion
Located in the historical province of Dumat Al-Jandal, the Interactive Museum Al Jouf spans a 1,200 m² space dedicated to cultural preservation and visitor engagement. Lumotion Studio delivered a similar, yet technologically enhanced setup, focusing heavily on precise spatial tracking:
- Interaction Technologies: To ensure high-fidelity interaction, Microsoft Kinect sensors were deployed to enable visitors to interact with digital content using gestures and body movement. Additionally, RPLiDAR A3M1 360° laser scanners were used to provide precise spatial tracking.
- Key Exhibits: The studio installed an interactive wall reacting to movement and touch, interactive digital tables providing multimedia content, another interactive sandbox, and a 3D mapping wall with a 360° video show.
Cultural Impact and Innovative Benefits
The realization of these projects offers significant benefits, extending beyond the simple refurbishment of exhibition spaces:
- Education and Engagement (Edutainment): The installations transform visitors into active participants in the narrative, significantly increasing information retention. The Studio leverages sensor-based interaction and gamification to make cultural heritage thrilling and contemporary, supporting Vision 2030 goals for enhancing quality of life.
- Tourism Development: The modernized immersive museums position the regions as next-generation tourist destinations, attracting international and domestic visitors and supporting the Kingdom’s economic diversification efforts.
- Heritage Preservation: The technologies serve as a bridge between the past and the present, presenting traditional heritage in a format that is understandable and engaging to younger generations, ensuring its future relevance. The immersive shows, which surround the visitor with sound and visuals, forge a powerful emotional connection with history.
Tony Tertyschnyk, CEO of Lumotion Studio, emphasizes the significance of these initiatives:
“Both museums are a testament to our belief that learning should be interactive, memorable, and enjoyable. By merging technology with storytelling, Lumotion Studio continues to push the boundaries of what museums can achieve, offering exhibition installation services in Saudi Arabia from Lumotion that merge technology with storytelling. We envision a future where museums evolve into interactive platforms — blending the physical with the virtual to transport visitors into immersive digital realms. Through this fusion, we aim to foster deeper connections with cultural heritage and empower visitors to explore history in unprecedented ways.”
