Tate launches digital platform to deliver collection resources directly to classrooms

New Tate Schools website provides free curriculum-aligned resources developed with teacher input for primary and secondary education.

Tate has launched Tate Schools, an online platform designed to provide teachers with free resources to integrate the national art collection into classroom teaching across Britain.

The website offers materials inspired by works from Tate’s collection, developed through consultation with teachers to address practical classroom requirements.

The platform includes step-by-step making activities, 10-minute art challenges, SEND-first immersive activities, artist story films, collection guides organised by medium and technique, and digital drawing tools for collaborative work. Resources align with curriculum goals across primary and secondary education levels, with adaptable content designed to support creative learning objectives.

The platform’s development forms part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Digital Accelerator for Arts and Culture programme. SEND features have been integrated throughout the platform to ensure accessibility for all learners.

Director of Tate Maria Balshaw said: “we know that teachers’ time and resources are stretched thinner than ever, and that makes it increasingly difficult to take school trips to museums and galleries.

“We want to remove as many of those barriers as possible, making Tate’s collection accessible in the classroom as well as in our galleries.”

The website launched with a workshop at Vicarage Primary School in East Ham, London, where teachers used various platform resources to lead activities and classroom discussions.

Tate Collective, the museum’s youth membership scheme for 16 to 25-year-olds, maintains over 180,000 active members who receive exhibition access for £5.
