Peace Museum seeks ‘urgent’ funds to stay open and free to public

West Yorkshire museum seeks £10,000 to remain open and free amid challenging funding conditions

West Yorkshire’s Peace Museum has announced it is in ‘urgent’ need of £10,000 to stay open and free, as it launches a public fundraising appeal.

The museum announced on its website that the £10,000 goal would allow the museum to stay open, preserve its collection, and continue its education and engagement work.

It said the appeal was made in “turbulent global conditions and a highly challenging funding landscape”.

The museum hopes to raise at least £5,000 in public donations, and has been pledged £5,000 in match funding via the Big Give, which will come into place next week.

Late last year, the museum’s director Joe Brook stepped down after serving 10 months in the role. The museum reopened to the public in August 2024 at Salts Mill in Saltaire after four years of closure.

Áine McKenny, the museum’s marketing and communications manager, said: “If you were ever thinking about supporting The Peace Museum, this is a fantastic way to increase the impact of your donation. We hope everyone will give generously to help us reach our target and enable us to carry on the work we all feel so passionately about.”

The museum, which is currently closed, is set to reopen in April.
