The Wellcome Trust has opened up its London headquarters to local NHS staff who are working to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

The headquarters of the Wellcome Trust has been transformed into a respite centre for NHS employees who are responding to the coronavirus pandemic at nearby facilities.

The ground floor of the Gibbs Building at 215 Euston Road has been temporarily adapted to offer a safe space for healthcare workers “dealing with a situation most of us can’t begin to imagine”.

An agreement has been reached between the organisation and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to offer this service while the current lockdown continues.

What’s on offer

The respite centre offers NHS workers the chance to:

  • have a change of scene from the hospital
  • have a nap
  • eat and drink
  • get psychological health and wellbeing support

The site will be staffed by volunteers, including some Wellcome staff, and managed by a centre manager and a volunteer manager.
