The heritage site has now put together a programme of talks, events, and workshops after it opened its doors early next year
Newhaven Fort in East Sussex has announced its opening programme of events as it re-opens next year, following the completion of a £7.5 million restoration of the 19th century site.
The heritage site is expected to reopen to the public from February 2025 with a schedule of events and activities.
Construction works began in March with the restoration of the Fort’s Romney Hut, and once reopened will allow new access to areas previously inaccessible to visitors, such as hidden tunnels.
Other new areas visitors will be able to explore include its Battery Observation Post, providing a new space for views of the Sussex coastline.
During the restoration, Newhaven Fort has also installed a second disabled toilet, a new family toilet, a ramped area outside the gift shop, better accessibility in exhibitions, and accessible playground equipment for younger visitors.
Lindsay Lawrence, general manager at Newhaven Fort, said the restoration project will provide “ greater access to improved spaces all year round for activities, events and workshops which are perfect for all the family.
“We’re committed to ensuring Newhaven Fort offers something for everyone, extending beyond its historical and wartime themes.
“We cannot wait to welcome the public back and showcase all the incredible work that’s been going on.”
