Appointee will lead fundraising for the NHM150 redevelopment, which aims to raise £150m in philanthropic support.

The Natural History Museum has appointed Chris Till as its new director of development.

Till joins the museum from Greenpeace International, where he is currently global philanthropy director, leading global partnerships and high-value fundraising programmes.

The new appointment is to take up the role later this month, succeeding Jennifer Cormack.

In the role, Till will lead fundraising for the museum’s NHM150 programme, which will see the redevelopment of the South Kensington building, and is hoped to be funded by £150m in philanthropic support.

Previously, Till spent a decade at Greenpeace UK as Deputy Fundraising Director, where he led a team responsible for £14m in annual income across major gifts, mid-level giving, legacies and celebrity partnerships.

Before Greenpeace, Till held senior fundraising positions with the National Theatre.

On the appointment, Till said: “With the accelerating climate and nature emergencies, there has never been a more important time to connect people with science, and to give scientists the resources they need to deepen understanding of the natural world, supporting bold action to protect our planet. I look forward to working with colleagues, supporters and partners to help realise the Museum’s ambitious vision for the future.”

Doug Gurr, Director of the Natural History Museum, added: “Through investment in science, visitor experience and public engagement, NHM150 will strengthen our role as a global champion for nature. Delivering this ambition requires significant philanthropic support, and Chris brings the experience and leadership needed to help make it happen.”
