The National Portrait Gallery in London has announced the shortlist for 2024 Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize.

Adam Ferguson, Jesse Navarre Vos, Tjitske Sluis, and Steph Wilson had their works selected from 4,847 entries submitted by 1,713 photographers worldwide.

The shortlisted works will be displayed in the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2024 exhibition, which opens in November. They will be displayed as part of an exhibition which will feature 62 portraits by 55 photographers.

The judging panel for 2024 comprised multimedia artist Pogus Caesar, curator Alona Pardo, writer and curator Lou Stoppard, and the National Portrait Gallery’s Curator of Photography, Clare Freestone.

In addition to monetary prizes for the top three places, one shortlisted photographer will receive a commission valued at £8,000 to create an artwork for the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection.

This initiative, supported by Taylor Wessing, aims to contribute to the world’s largest collection of portraiture.

The resulting exhibition will also feature an In Focus display by Diana Markosian, showcasing work from her new publication, “Father”.

Serena Brown, recipient of the inaugural commission prize in 2023, will unveil her new portrait for the Collection at this year’s award ceremony.

The winner of the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2024 will be announced on Tuesday, 12 November 2024.
