Collaborative applications from museums, archives and research institutions due 24 November as two-page concept notes
A new funding opportunity for ambitious, high-impact heritage projects is now available from Lloyd’s Register Foundation. This £2.5 million programme will support initiatives that strengthen maritime heritage research, equity, safety, and public access.
The Foundation has been working globally to engineer a safer world for many years, building on the heritage of Lloyd’s Register, which dates back to 1760 as a maritime classification society. Now, by focusing on a number of heritage ‘key themes’, it aims to increase understanding of maritime safety and its importance to the past, present and future ocean economy.
Through this funding opportunity, the Foundation invites expressions of interest to help it to deliver this vision, mobilising heritage and cultural evidence, and widening perspectives to learn from the past.

The Foundation welcomes applications from academic and research institutions including museums, archives and heritage charities, as well as community and cultural organisations, non-profits and consortia. Collaborative, cross-sector and inter-disciplinary proposals are strongly encouraged.
The Foundation is particularly interested in proposals that will scale its impact in the following five ways:
– Aligning with its heritage priorities and contributing to delivery of the Foundation’s 2024-2029 strategy.
– Demonstrating collaboration and shared benefit.
– Centring equity, innovation, and access.
– Having a clear vision and plan for impact and sustainability.
– Building capacity across the sector.
➔ You can apply for the funding opportunity here.
Applicants will be required to submit a short concept note (maximum two pages) that outlines the project idea, proposed partners, indicative budget, and alignment with the Foundation’s heritage themes. Expression of interest will be assessed for eligibility, strategic fit, and potential impact.
To ensure timely consideration, please submit your expression of interest by 24 November 2025 23:59 GMT. Once an initial review has been carried out, some additional documentation may be requested if you have not previously worked with the Foundation.
Additional information on the call, including a list of eligible and ineligible costs, is available on the Lloyd’s Register Foundation website.
