National Museums Liverpool was selected as the European host city for showcasing objects from one of the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries in its current three year European loan cycle and can be visited at World Museum until 28 October 2018
The Hub, in the role of Principal Contractor, worked closely with the exhibitions team at National Museums Liverpool and their appointed creative team, Draw & Code, to deliver an exhibition that integrates the technical requirements, through installation and operation, of both the collection and the specified interpretive media, while delivering the level of quality expected of an international blockbuster exhibition.
A key element for the exhibition was the development and delivery of the geometric wall and mausoleum which required prototyping and detailed development to ensure the creation of a detailed production and installation method which allowed for the structures to be installed safely without compromising the finished aesthetic. Structural calculations were crucial in the design development to meet the needs of the collection on display. By gathering this information early on, solutions were implemented which created fluidity between the protective barriers and plinth whilst meeting the security requirements of the collection.
The fast turnaround project required an proactive approach to programming with our team coordinating closely with National Museums Liverpool and Draw & Code, to continually assess and develop the programme allowing for sequenced working onsite maintaining the practical completion dates and allowing for sectional handover of areas to specialists suppliers to ensure the exhibition was handed over to the client in time for the collections arrival.
As Principal Contractor, The Hub were appointed to take the exhibition design through development and setting out to off-site construction and on site installation. Utilising our state of the art production facilities we delivered a number of immersive experiences that were coordinated with the producers at Draw & Code, requiring the sharing of software and production techniques to meet the expectations of National Museums Liverpool, the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau and Shaanxi History Museum (Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Centre), People’s Republic of China who jointly organised the exhibition.
