Historic Environment Scotland unveils a new digital resource offering access to millions of records, images, and archival materials.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has launched trove.scot, a new digital portal that provides access to millions of records spanning over 5,000 years of Scotland’s history. The platform brings together a wealth of HES’s collections, including designation records, archaeological data, archival material, and images, making it easier for users to explore Scotland’s heritage.
The portal aggregates approximately three million records, covering Scotland’s most significant historic sites, buildings, and archaeological heritage. It includes a catalogue of over 2,000 culturally important objects, alongside media from SCRAN, and offers educational resources. Trove.scot provides a centralised search function, allowing users to filter results by keyword or map search, offering a streamlined way to access diverse sources in one place.
Katerina Brown, Chief Executive of HES, said:“We are excited to be bringing heritage even closer to people’s everyday lives with this new platform. trove.scot will make it easier to learn about the heritage and historic environment that surrounds you, whether that is the listed buildings on your street or archive images of historic events that shaped communities.
“trove.scot marks one of the largest investments in our programme to improve and enhance digital access to information on the historic environment, and increase the number and diversity of people who engage with Scotland’s history and heritage.
The initiative is expected to offer valuable resources for historians, educators, and heritage professionals, as well as general users interested in exploring Scotland’s rich historical narrative.
