CGI designs reveal Manchester’s industrial history will be showcased through historic working engines when the museum’s Power Hall reopens following urgent repairs and conservation work.

The Science and Industry Museum has revealed its first designs ahead of its Power Hall reopening.

CGI images show how Power Hall: The Law Family Gallery could look in advance of the reopening of the hall, which was closed to the public for urgent repairs in 2019.

It will display a collection of historic 19th and early 20th century working engines to tell the story of Manchester’s industrial past.

The new space is hoped to allow visitors to “rediscover their favourite objects from fresh perspectives”.

Alongside this new addition, exhibits from before the 2019 closure will be retained.

The work to reimagine the hall is part of a multi-million-pound project taking place across the museum. The wider hall has undergone restoration works including urgent roof and timber repairs, new windows and doors and wider building conservation.
