The opening comes after 12 years of planning and development, with backing form The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Stourbridge Glass Museum is set to welcome its first visitors when it opens to the public on 9th April.
With funding support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the museum has been in the making following 12 years of planning and development.
The museum will tell the history of Stourbridge glassworks from 200 years ago, with hundreds of pieces from the Stourbridge Glass Collection dating back to the 17th century.
Visitors will be able to watch live glass-making by glass artist Allister Malcolm and his team, and the location will also be home to contemporary glass art exhibitions. The museum’s first modern artwork exhibition, titled ‘Journeys and Horizons’, is by artist and scholar Vanessa Cutler.
Robyn Llewellyn, Director, England, Midlands & East at The National Lottery Heritage Fund said: “It’s thanks to National Lottery players that we are able to support ambitious projects such as the opening of Stourbridge Glass Museum. I am especially excited that the museum will bring to life the region’s important glass-making heritage whilst also championing contemporary British artists.”
Ollie Buckley, Stourbridge Glass Museum Director added: “It’s hard to believe the moment of opening is upon us after so many years of work developing the museum. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at Stourbridge Glass Museum and I’m confident visitors both young and old will thoroughly enjoy learning about the history of glass making and admire the different pieces on display.”
