The former leader of the Heritage Lottery Fund will lead the membership body from July
Heritage membership body The Heritage Alliance has announced the appointment of Carole Souter CBE as its new Chair.
Souter brings experience in the public sector, having previously served as CEO of the Heritage Lottery Fund before its rebranding to National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2019. She was also Interim Chair of Historic Royal Palaces.

Carole is a passionate advocate for culture and heritage, with an outstanding record of achievement in the sector.

She also currently serves as Chair of the Sulgrave Manor Trust, is a Trustee of the Horniman Museum and Gardens and a Trustee of the Oxford Preservation Trust.
Souter will succeed Interim Chair, Dr Ingrid Samuel OBE, who steps down from the role in July 2024.
The organisation said in an announcement: “Carole’s vast experience, professionalism and warmth will be a major asset for the Alliance moving forward. We are grateful to our Interim Chair Ingrid Samuel OBE for her excellent service through the interim period.”
