Birmingham City Council funding will extend opening hours at several museums from July 2026 until the end of March 2027.

Several Birmingham museums will extend their opening hours from July 2026 until March 2027, following £289,000 of additional funding from Birmingham City Council.

The funding was made available as part of an amendment to the 2026/27 council budget, approved on 2 March 2026. The extended opening programme is funded until the end of March 2027.

From 7 July, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum will open six days a week during term time and every day during the school holidays.

From 18 July, Blakesley Hall will open on Saturdays and Sundays, increasing its opening to five days a week. From 19 July, the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter will open on Sundays, increasing to four days a week.

The Museum Collection Centre, which holds over 80% of the city’s collection of around a million items, will offer selected weekend tours, with plans to develop a broader programme.

Councillor Deborah Harries, cabinet member for culture, said: “Giving greater access to our nine museums and our precious collections, for residents and visitors, has to be a priority.”

Sara Wajid and Zak Mensah, co-chief executives of Birmingham Museums Trust, added said it will “enable more people to enjoy Birmingham’s outstanding museums and historic properties.”
