Leicestershire Council’s ‘Culture to You’ service brings museum collections to residents’ homes, with volunteers delivering art, objects and activities tailored to individual interests
A new project is being trialed to allow local people to experience Leicestershire County Council’s art and museum collections from their own home.
The ‘Culture to You’ service is available to residents who are unable to visit the council’s museum and library sites in person.
It will see paintings, objects, books and creative activities brought into residents homes. The council said items are loaned for a set period, are tailored to people’s interests and can involve regular visits and activities to help explore the artwork.
Run by the Culture Leicestershire service, it’s being trialled in the Oadby and Wigston areas.
Councillor Christine Radford, cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “Access to the arts is vital for community wellbeing and has proven health and social benefits.
“This new service is a real string to our bow and breaks down the barriers that some people currently face, giving them the opportunity to access art and culture in a way that suits them, and at a time that meets their needs.
“From enjoying a creative activity inspired by our handling objects, through to borrowing an artwork from one of our collections, there’s plenty of choice on offer.”
Delivery of the art and museum objects to people in their homes is to be carried out by volunteers, for which it is actively recruiting.
