‘A whirlwind’: We The Curious reopens two years after fire

The Bristol science centre has undergone repairs to its space and exhibitions after a rare solar panel incident

Bristol-based science attraction We The Curious has reopened to visitors today, after recovering from a fire which forced it to close in April 2022.

A rare electrical accident with its solar panels, thought to have been caused by birds, forced the attraction to close after efforts to extinguish the fire caused significant water damage inside the building.

It had initially hoped to open to visitors early last year, but construction and supply chain delays pushed that opening back.

Donna Speed, CEO at We The Curious said: “It’s been a whirlwind of activity at We The Curious as we prep for reopening so it’s fantastic to say that it’s officially time to open our doors!

“We’ve seen an overwhelming amount of love and excitement since we announced the reopening date earlier this year and we can’t wait to welcome people back to explore their favourites and be surprised by something new.”

Its existing exhibits are still on display, some of which have been restored; its ‘Project What If’exhibition is back on display having been open for just 10 months before it was forced to close.

Its special events will be back in the autumn, it said. An opening celebration event is to be held on Saturday 6 July.
