The multi-million-pound repair to the Bristol attraction has been pushed back due to supply chain delays.
The reopening of Bristol science centre We The Curious has been pushed back to Summer after delays to the multi-million-pound repair programme.
The attraction was temporarily closed in 2022 after a fire broke out around the solar panels on its roof, in a rare electrical accident thought to have been caused by birds. Efforts to extinguish the fire caused significant water damage inside the building, which has since remained closed.
We The Curious had initially hoped to open to visitors early this year, but said construction and supply chain delays have meant it now aims to be open by Summer 2024.
The repair works are now in their final completion phase, it said, with staff already working in the building ahead of reopening.
In a statement, it said: “It’s been a challenging and complex project, involving equipment and exhibits that are utterly unique to us and housed in a Grade II listed building.
“We remain absolutely committed to reopening, but we’re being ultra cautious on naming exact dates until we have greater certainty, so that we don’t let anyone down. We hope to be in a position in the next few weeks to share a further update.”
Since the fire closure, We The Curious has completed a programme of free Out and About activities and school takeovers, with over 260 events across Bristol.
“We can’t wait to be able to confidently announce our reopening date and look forward to welcoming everyone back into our building”, the statement concluded.
