Pilot project pairs Historic England conservators with Taras Shevchenko National Museum to conserve 11 historic photographs.
Historic England has held an inaugural meeting in London, formed to guide a UK-Ukraine cultural programme which will run until 2029.
The Advisory Board for the Cultural Heritage Programme sits under the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership, which is designed to support the protection, preservation and restoration of Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
The programme is hoped to support educational exchange, professional development and capacity building for those working to protect, preserve and restore Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
Chaired by Historic England chairman, Lord Neil Mendoza, the first meeting brought together representatives from Historic England, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the British Council, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Foundation to help guide the strategic direction and delivery of the programme.
It is also set to launch its first project: the conservation of historic photographs from Kyiv’s Taras Shevchenko National Museum.
The programme’s pilot project pairs Historic England conservators with counterparts at the Taras Shevchenko National Museum to conserve 11 historic photographic objects from its collection.
The project will see the conservation of 11 historic photographic objects from the museum’s collections, undertaken by Historic England conservators working alongside Ukrainian conservation professionals to support development of long-term conservation capability within Ukraine.
