Gallery’s Picture Library offers gift memberships and artwork loans including Henri Matisse print ahead of selection deadline on 30 November.
Leeds Art Gallery is promoting gift memberships and artwork loans through its Picture Library lending scheme, with the final selection weekend before Christmas running until Sunday 30 November.
Among more than 140 works available to borrow is a lithograph by Henri Matisse, The Dancer (1949). The piece is one of 24 lithographs produced by Matisse in the 1940s with the intent of bringing art to young children and was on display during Leeds City Museum’s recent Miffy exhibition.
The Picture Library scheme was established in 1961 and offers residents across Yorkshire the opportunity to display works from the gallery’s collection in their homes or businesses. Works available include oils, watercolours, drawings, photographs and a variety of prints.
Jane Bhoyroo, Principal Keeper at Leeds Art Gallery, said: “This season we’re excited to introduce several new works to the lending scheme, from those by young artists in the city, to historic prints. ”
Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, added: “Offering the chance for the gallery’s amazing collection to be displayed in homes across the city is a wonderful expression of the idea that art should be accessible and available to everyone.
“Bringing these beautiful artworks into our communities gives those people taking part the chance to experience and appreciate art in a completely new and individual way and to put culture at the heart of our homes and families.”
