The new interactive feature in Showtown’s Visitor App challenges users to find jokes on Blackpool’s Comedy Carpet, rewarding them with exclusive comedy videos curated by local teens.

Blackpool’s Showtown museum is launching a new interactive experience, designed in participation with young people.

The museum’s app offers visitors a new challenge while standing on the seaside town’s existing ’Comedy Carpet’ installation, which celebrates comedy catchphrases and well-loved jokes.

Inside the museum’s Showtown Visitor App, visitors will now be tasked with searching for specific jokes, catchphrases and punchlines from some of the UK’s greatest comedians which have been incorporated into the floor.

Those successful in finding the jokes and catchphrases are rewarded with exclusive videos featuring insights from comedy experts and clips from top comedians.

The new app feature was developed with input from Showtown’s Youth Academy, a group of nine comedy enthusiasts aged 14-18, in a project funded by the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund.

The group selected 10 performers to highlight in this project, including Morecambe and Wise, Cannon and Ball, Ken Dodd, and Victoria Wood.

By blending heritage with technology, Showtown is ensuring the legacy of these comedy greats continues to inspire and entertain new generations.
