Your thoughts: A ‘crippling’ loophole for memberships

Are you worried about a potential ‘refund loophole’ set to be introduced next year?

New consumer rights legislation hits in 2026. In its current form, it will let members claim full refunds within 14 days of purchasing a membership.

Sector leaders including the National Trust, Tate, and V&A have reportedly warned the government that this could be “crippling”, threatening the entire membership model. They say it may allow visitors to completely refund a membership even after using immediate benefits like free exhibition access.

Are you concerned about this potential loophole affecting your membership income?

What steps are you taking to prepare for these changes?

We want to hear from managers, directors, and development teams about whether this is on your radar, and what you’re doing about it.
