A new Yorkshire Sculpture Park digital guide has been developed to offer audiences an unparalleled experience of all the organisation has to offer – regardless of whether they are at the site or on the other side of the world.
Following in the footsteps of many other high-profile cultural attractions – Central Park Conservancy, Black Cultural Archives, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum – Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) has collaborated with Bloomberg Philanthropies to produce a digital guide accessible via the Bloomberg Connects app.
The resource enables users to discover new content and access in-depth information about artworks displayed by YSP, while also answering all the FAQs a traditional paper guide would tackle.
Exclusive film and audio content is available on the app, including an audiovisual guide for Joana Vasconcelos’s headline exhibition Beyond and standalone works by the likes of Alfredo Jaar, Kalliopi Lemos, Jaume Plensa, RAQS Media Collective, Ursula von Rydingsvard, and William Tucker.
“Our guide contains everything visitors need in one place: from maps and information about food, drink and shopping, to accessibility and engaging information about the artworks,” explains Sarah Coulson, the curator and content lead for YSP’s guide.
“Curated walking routes are available for those wanting a little more guidance, including short and longer routes for wheelchair users and those with prams, as well as a half day or full day walks.
“Behind the scenes photographs of the making of some of YSP’s much-loved site-specific works, including Andy Goldsworthy’s Hanging Trees and James Turrell’s Deer Shelter Skyspace, are also featured. We hope our visitors and digital audiences enjoy using it as much as we have enjoyed creating it.”
Other features on the app include Perspectives, a subset devoted to artists discussing their favourite works and why they connect with them, and YSP Family, an area set aside for resources aiming to introduce family audiences to ideas and debates about sculpture and landscape.
The guide is available via the Bloomberg Connects app, downloadable via Apple Store or Google Play.
