Wellcome Collection announces three senior hires

Two Associate Directors and a Head of Access, Diversity & Inclusion will begin their roles at the museum and library in Spring

London’s Wellcome Collection has announced three new senior hires to its leadership team.

Daniel Martin, Rachael Minott and Sumitra Upham will provide “strategic direction to the organisation”, it said.

Martin will join as Associate Director, Collections & Digital from a role as Head of Collections Services and Digital Strategy Lead at the Royal Maritime Museums.

He has worked across the museum sector as a curator, researcher, conservator, community engagement facilitator and digital leader, and co-developed Derby Museums’ ‘Human-Centred Design & Co-production Handbook’.

Minott will join as Head of Access, Diversity & Inclusion (AD&I), Wellcome Collection.
Minott is an artist and heritage professional whose research includes interventions in decolonial curatorial and heritage practice. She joins Wellcome from Birmingham Museums Trust and the National Archives, where she was Assistant Director of Engagement, and Head of Diversity Equity and Inclusion respectively. She is also a Trustee for the Museum of Homelessness.

Upham will join as Associate Director, Curatorial & Public Practice from her current role as Head of Programmes at the Crafts Council and a trustee at Cubitt.

In 2023 she was Co-Curator of ‘Dancing Before the Moon’, the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Previously, she was Senior Curator at the Design Museum, Co-Curator of the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial, and Associate Curator at the ICA.
