Northern Sámi artist Máret Ánne Sara announced for the next Turbine Hall commission at Tate Modern
Tate is to extend its partnership with Hyundai Motor until 2036, as it reveals the next commission for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall.
Northern Sámi artist Máret Ánne Sara will create the next Hyundai Commission, made possible by the partnership between Tate and the South Korean automotive manufacturer.
The partnership was founded in 2014 with the longest initial commitment from a corporate partner in Tate’s history, and has now been extended for another decade until 2036.
Previous commissions have included Kara Walker’s fountain and Anicka Yi’s floating artificial lifeforms.
Hyundai Motor will also continue its support of the Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational. Established in 2019, the centre is used by Tate to develop and share art and historical knowledge, contributing to its exhibitions, displays, acquisitions and events across Tate’s four galleries.
The commission is curated by Helen O’Malley, Curator, International Art (Community and Participation). It will be accompanied by a new book from Tate Publishing.
Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate, said the Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational “has deepened Tate’s commitment to reframing art histories for the 21st century”.
