Royal Marines Museum set to replace Action Stations, offering an immersive journey through four centuries of naval heroism and service.
Action Stations, a visitors attraction in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard offering naval-themed laser tag, obstacle courses, and a climbing tower, is to close as it transforms into the new Royal Marines Museum.
The attraction is set to close in February 2025 to undertake the transformation into the museum, which is subsequently set to open in summer 2026.
The new experience will “honour the history, dedication and bravery of the Royal Marines”. The first plans for the museum were revealed in July by The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN), after it secured its first round of funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Funding of £4.9m has been secured in principle, bringing its total secured funds and pledges totaling over £6m for the project to date.
The new museum will showcase four centuries of Royal Marines history, from its forerunner’s creation in 1664 to the present day. NMRN has worked in partnership with representatives from the Royal Marines on the development of the project.
Matthew Sheldon, Chief Executive Officer for the Museum said in July the museum will “use the latest interpretative and digital techniques to really bring the endeavor, courage, and conflict inherent in that service experience to life.”
