For the first time grown-ups will be able experience a sleepover at the Science Museum with special midnight Star Wars screening and nighttime exhibition tours
Hot on the heels of Museums at Night the Science Museum is extending the way visitors experience the museum by announcing two unique all-nighters including midnight screenings of the new Star Wars film.
Dubbed Astronights, the events will be held on Saturday 23 January and Friday 4 March 2016, between 7pm and 9.30am. One of the highlights of the experience will be screenings of Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens in 70mm IMAX format, which will reveal 40 per cent more film image than regular cinema screens.
Astronights will also provide guests with the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Science Museum’s diverse collections and dine in style with a three course menu and live music.
There will also be the chance to discover a new side to the Museum by torchlight, as well as enjoy the current exhibitions Cosmonauts: Birth of the Space Age and Gathered Leaves: Photographs by Alec Soth. In addition to the atmospheric midnight screening of Star Wars, visitors can indulge in a late-night space movie marathon in the iconic Exploring Space gallery.
The Science Museum’s Special Events Manager, Scott McKenzie-Cook, said: “Our Science Nights for children have been bestsellers for years and now we want adults to have the opportunity to experience the magic. This will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, whether you’re a Star Wars fan, keen to explore the Museum by torchlight or just want to experience what it feels like to wake up in one of the UK’s most popular Museums.”
Booking is now open for Astronights at the Science Museum on Saturday 23 January and Friday 4 March 2016. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/astronights. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
