Parliament Week Partners’ Conference comes to People’s History Museum

The People's History Museum will host the Partners' Conference this Thursday as part of Parliament Week (16 – 22 November), a nationwide programme of events which explores, questions and engages people across the country with issues of democracy and democratic heritage. The day will consist of free talks, workshops and networking and organisations can take part by running debates, talks, exhibitions and performances that challenge and explore democracy and politics. It is an opportunity for arts and heritage attractions to showcase their collections and engage with new and existing audiences.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to visit the People’s History Museum’s new exhibition, Election! Britain Votes, which charts the history of British elections and follows the live action as we prepare to go to the polls on 7 May 2015. Emily Urnell, Project Manager for Parliament Week, said: “What better place to engage people in Parliament Week than at the People’s History Museum, the home of democracy and ideas worth fighting for. This is the first time that the partner’s conference has been held outside of London and we’re looking to meet organisations from all over the UK, to discover the topics and issues relevant to their audiences and start to shape an exciting programme for 2015.”

Highlights of the day include LiberTeas – a national event to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, how to build your social media presence, Parliament 101 where participants can learn about how Parliament works and put questions to the Houses of Parliament’s regional outreach officer for the North West, Gary Hart.

Parliament Week has over 300 partner organisations across the UK and is co-ordinated by the House of Commons, with support from the House of Lords. To find out more and sign up, go to www.parliamentweek.org/blog/parliament-week-partners-conference/.
