James Grierson brings experience to lead the charity in preserving Victorian and Edwardian architecture.
A new Chair has been appointed at the Victorian Society, the charity and society which campaigns preserve and promote Victorian and Edwardian architecture across England and Wales.
James Grierson will take up the role, bringing experience as a Chartered Surveyor with a background in Land Economy and an MBA, as well as time in the NHS, central government, and museums.
Grierson has served as a non-executive director at the Architects Registration Board and as Chair of the Institute of Conservation (ICON). He concludes his six years as Chair of York Museums Trust as he takes up his appointment with the Victorian Society.
He succeeds Professor Hilary Grainger OBE in the role.
Grierson said of the appointment: “I joined the board as an observer at the start of the year and have very much enjoyed getting to know the trustees and members in different parts of the country.
“Having been a member of the appointment panel for the new Director I am delighted to be working with James Hughes, and excited at the membership and fundraising opportunities opening up with the new NLHF funding.”
As a statutory consultee, by law the Victorian Society is to be notified of any work to a listed building which involves any element of demolition or structural alteration.
