Having launched a competition for the design of its new Central Hall last year, York’s National Railway Museum has revealed the five finalists ahead of the winner being announced next month.
The five shortlisted proposals are now on display in an online gallery and an exhibition at the Museum, with public feedback – in the form of a comment slip or email – welcomed to help inform the final decision. The deadline for these to be submitted is 23rd February.
The final five
Applicants were tasked with designing a new Central Hall that adhered to criteria including a £16.5 million construction budget and the delivery of a 4,500m² centrepiece building.
Whichever design is selected, the Central Hall will open prior to the Museum’s 50th anniversary in 2025.
