Former Tate Liverpool executive director brings experience from V&A Dundee, Arts Council North and Crafts Council to the role.

National Museums Liverpool has appointed Andrea Nixon MBE as the new chair of its board.

National Museums Liverpool is a group of museums and galleries in Liverpool, England, that includes venues such as the World Museum, Walker Art Gallery, and Museum of Liverpool, collectively forming one of the largest museum services in the UK.

Prior to establishing her own consultancy in 2018, Nixon was Executive Director of Tate Liverpool, where she led the management and development of the gallery.

She worked as director of development for the Tate in London from 1998 to 2006, and has been a volunteer trustee at Arts Council North, the Crafts Council and The Audience Agency.

Nixon has chaired the V&A Dundee Advisory Board from 2015 to 2020. She is currently chair of the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, retiring November 2025.

She was awarded an MBE for services to the arts in 2019.

Nixon said: “I have loved visiting and engaging with all National Museums Liverpool’s sites over the years and am in awe of its incredible collections, outstanding community ventures and international position in the museum world. I look forward to supporting NML in the future in every way I can.”

Laura Pye, Director of National Museums Liverpool, added: “Andrea is well-known in the Liverpool cultural scene and brings a wide range of skill and experience which I am sure will bring huge benefit to National Museums Liverpool.”
