Museums Galleries Scotland reprises #MuseumsSparkJoy advocacy campaign for 2020

To celebrate the positive role of museums and galleries, even in the toughest of times, Museums Galleries Scotland will deliver a public advocacy campaign for the second year running on International Museums Day.

Despite the outbreak of Covid-19 meaning “circumstances have changed beyond imagination” compared to this time last year, Museums Galleries Scotland will use International Museums Day on 18th May to praise the institutions which have remained active participants in their communities through an incredibly challenging period.

Following on from the success of the #MuseumsSparkJoy advocacy campaign in 2019, the hashtag will be reprised to encourage engagement between institutions and their social media followers. This will centre around the public sharing what they love and miss most about their local museum or gallery alongside sharing memories or photos of previous visits.

Museum staff, whether in the capacity of employees or individuals, will also be encouraged to share what they love and miss most about their own organisation; whether that’s a favourite collection or stories about the site.

Museums Galleries Scotland states the platform could additionally be ideal for the wider sector to flag online fundraising platforms.
