Museum Development Network offers help for Museums + Heritage Awards entrants

As the deadline for entries to the Museums + Heritage Awards for Excellence moves into the final ten days, the Museum Development Network officers from England are offering their assistance

If you are thinking of applying for the Museums + Heritage Awards but not sure where to start, are worried about the cost implications or nervous about the event then your regional Museum Development officer (MDO) can offer advice and support.

Museum Development teams are regionally based networks, funded by ACE, which support, develop and advocate for museums across the country. The MDOs work through an annually elected committee in partnership with ACE to find workable and sustainable structures for the future.

Sarah Spurrier, Museum Development Programme Officer for Museum Development East Midlands said that the MDOs can provide advice on project selection and the application process, giving museum professionals the confidence to promote the great work undertaken at their organisations.

“Some Museum Development providers may also be able to provide grant aid to cover the cost of the entry and travel to the event where most needed, however check with your local Museum Development team to see what help is on offer in your region,” she said. “The awards are aimed at museums of all shapes and sizes and Museum Development will be able to advise on the process.”

The Museums Development Network will also be present at this year’s Museums + Heritage Show from 18-19 May to provide advice and support through the ‘Ask the Expert’ stand.

If you would like further support or more information simply contact your local Museum Development Officer or regional Museum Development team.
