Museum and heritage recipients of King’s Birthday Honours 2026

OBEs and MBEs were awarded to the leaders of major institutions and regional organisations in the King’s third Birthday Honours list.

Notable figures from the museum and heritage sector have received a range of honours in the King’s Birthday Honours list this year.

The recognitions spanned leadership roles at major national institutions as well as community-focused roles across the regions.

Awards in the museum sector

Henry Cyril Grunwald CBE. Lately chair, National Holocaust Centre and Museum, Newark, for services to Holocaust Remembrance and Education.

Rhiannon Jane Hiles CBE. Chief executive, Beamish Museum, for services to Museums and to the Culture and Heritage of North East England.

Hiles said: “To be recognised in this way for my passion for the region, and for representing its people and their stories, means a great deal to me and has had a profound impact. I feel this honour also belongs to everyone who has supported me in my commitment to placing heritage and culture at the centre of people’s lives.”

John Fraser McLeish OBE. Chief executive, The Gordon Highlanders Museum and chair, The Scottish Tartans Authority, for services to Heritage and to the community in Aberdeenshire.

Andy Purvis OBE. Professor of biodiversity, Natural History Museum, for services to Biodiversity Science.

Suzanne Elizabeth Raine MBE. Trustee, Imperial War Museum, for services to Heritage.

Paul Horton BEM. Trustee and volunteer, Mansfield Fire Station and Museum, for services to the community in Mansfield and Nottinghamshire.

Paul Kitching BEM. Head of the Natural History Museum, Tring, for services to Museums and to the community in Tring, Hertfordshire.

Awards in the heritage sector

Mukesh Sharma OBE. Deputy chair and trustee, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, for services to Heritage.

David Austin MBE. For services to the Heritage of Wales, to Economic Regeneration and to Young People.

Alan George Bealby MBE. Chair, Post Office Remembrance Fellowship, for services to Heritage and Education.

Caterina Goodhart MBE. Founder, London School of Picture and Frame Conservation, for services to Conservation and Heritage Crafts.

Reuben Kench MBE. Chair, Stockton and Darlington Rail Heritage Partnership, for services to Heritage.

Kimberly Ann Klug-Miller MBE. Community partnerships manager, Historic Royal Palaces, for services to Community Access to Heritage.

Robyn Llewellyn MBE. Director, England, Midlands and East, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, for services to Heritage.

Mark John Mair MBE. Volunteer chair, Morayvia Aerospace Centre, for services to Heritage, to Tourism and to the community in Moray.

Alex Maws MBE. Head of education and heritage, Association of Jewish Refugees, for services to Holocaust Education and Remembrance.

Heidi Louise Meyer MBE. Master, Lord Leycester Hospital, for services to Heritage.

Patrick John Newberry MBE. Chair, Historic England Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, for services to Heritage and Education.

Celia Richardson OBE. Director of communications and fundraising, The National Trust, for services to Conservation.

Richardson said: “I’m very happy to receive this honour. I love working in a place where thousands of people do their utmost every day to serve the public, and seeing all the skill and passion that entails. Our staff and volunteers care deeply about what they do — from beaver releases and Beatle houses to tea and scones, and they work hard to make sure the National Trust is for everyone. The UK voluntary sector and its people underpin so much of what makes our country work, and I’m grateful and proud to be part of it.”
