The museum hopes to move from its location in Lewisham Shopping Centre to a temporary space while it prepares for a permanent 2027 venue
The Migration Museum in Lewisham has announced that it will close its base at the Lewisham Shopping Centre on 30 March 2025, after four years at the location.
The museum is now looking for a temporary venue to fill the time remaining until its permanent reopening in the City of London in 2027.
It said in a statement: “We’ve had a fantastic four years in Lewisham, building lasting friendships – and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome.
“We are immensely grateful to Landsec for generously enabling us to host our museum in such a brilliant venue in the heart of this incredible community, and to every single person who has visited, contributed and supported the museum over the past four years.”
The museum’s new permanent home is set to open on the first three floors of a new student accommodation development in The City of London, developed in partnership with real estate company Dominus.
The new museum is expected to include interactive temporary and permanent exhibition galleries, event and education space, outdoor areas for programming and activation and a cafe/restaurant and shop.
The museum said it is now planning special events and activities during its final few months in the space.
