Marcon launches gallery refresh at Titanic Belfast

Two years after opening, Titanic Belfast® embarked upon a gallery refresh programme and once again entrusted Marcon with the intricate project. Northern Ireland’s most visited tourist attraction remodelled galleries 2, 3, 5a and 5b which all add something special to the award winning venue.

Working closely with museum designers Studio MB, Marcon enhanced the space with new interactives, animations, graphics, and specialist joinery items which includes a feature floating table and authentic seating from the era.

Gallery 5b is a replica of the Titanic deck and required the formation of a typical deck side cabin. Using the Pepper’s Ghost technique, the cabin allows visitors to see a hologram within the Palm Court Dining Room. There is a sense of realism to the recreated ship deck with an animated projection of the Atlantic Ocean.

Titanic Belfast has continued to invest in the galleries to ensure that the venue keeps adding to its offer for tourists and repeat visitors alike. Marcon’s work to the galleries follows on from the enhancements made to Gallery 2, which contains the now famous ‘Shipyard Ride’ and the inclusion of the new Ocean Exploration Centre.

All works had to be undertaken outside of opening hours to ensure that there was no impact on visitors to the exhibition.

Marcon completed the initial fit-out of the 9 galleries within Titanic Belfast and was awarded category winner at the Museum & Heritage Awards in London and the Overall winner at the National Association of Shopfitters Awards.  The judges remarked on the quality of the fit-out within Titanic Belfast.
