The revamped retail identity is hoped to reflect the museum’s objects and stories while aligning with its 2030 carbon neutral plans.

London Transport Museum has revealed a new retail identity and packaging system for its sizeable retail offering.

The museum’s products will now be packaged in cardboard boxes and bags, on which is printed tile designs in London-transport-inspired colours.

The cups, boxes, tags, and tape, created by London design agency Kit Studio, have allowed the museum to do away with plastic windows, and has introduced reusable peg boards to its product displays.

Kit Studio said the museum’s team felt its retail experience lacked a crucial story-telling element. A library of graphic tiles were created in response, inspired by the museum’s collection and transport history.

Sau-Fun Mo, Head of Design & Presentation at London Transport Museum said the resulting collection of designs “nods towards the Museumʼs collection and the capitalʼs rich transport design heritage” and its recyclable packaging nods to the museum’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Chris Bounds, Creative Partner at Kit Studio added: “From delving into the archives to researching transport journeys, we created a system that is instantly recognisable as London, with an added level of story-telling that encourages customers to explore the packaging.”
