Leach Transforms Maritime Museum redevelopment site with large-format print

Huddersfield-based print specialist, Leach, delivered striking hoardings for Liverpool’s Maritime Museum redevelopment, showcasing creativity, and technical precision. While strengthening ties with National Museums Liverpool they enhanced Albert Dock’s cultural presence.

Liverpool’s Maritime Museum is undergoing a major three-year redevelopment, but visitors to the historic Albert Dock won’t be greeted by a typical construction site. Instead, bold and high-impact hoardings now conceal the works, thanks to a large-scale print project delivered by Huddersfield-based, large format print specialists Leach.

The museum, part of National Museums Liverpool, required extensive perimeter coverings to secure the site while maintaining an attractive presence in one of the city’s busiest visitor destinations. Leach, a long-standing partner of the organisation, was appointed to deliver the project.

Working closely with the museum’s in-house design team, Leach project managers carried out several site visits to take precise measurements and assess the unique challenges posed by the installation. With hoardings reaching 3.4 metres in height, which is significantly taller than standard, the team recommended durable composite panels to achieve both structural integrity and long-term visual impact.

Leach also created bespoke artwork templates for the museum’s designers, simplifying the creative process. Once approved, the graphics were printed in sequence at Leach’s Huddersfield production facility. The team took the time to ensure each panel was numbered and prepared for efficient installation, transforming the hoardings into a striking graphic display that communicates key messages to the public.

In addition to the main perimeter boards, Leach produced mesh banners for entrances and A1 clip frames to promote ongoing events at Albert Dock, offering flexibility for updates during the museum’s closure. Attention to detail extended to the finishing touches, with coloured screw caps sourced to match the graphics and create a clean, professional appearance.

As redevelopment and essential work continues, the installation ensures the Maritime Museum retains its presence as a cultural landmark on the Albert Dock. This can be achieved by turning otherwise disruptive construction sites into engaging, visually striking experiences.
