OBEs and MBEs were awarded to the leaders of major institutions and regional organisations in the King’s second Birthday Honours
Notable figures from the museum and heritage sector have received a range of honours in the King’s Birthday Honours list this year.
The recognitions spanned leadership roles at major national institutions as well as community-focused roles across the regions.
Awards in the museum sector
Tim Reeve, deputy director and COO of the V&A since 2013, has been awarded a CBE for services to museums. Reeve led the development of V&A East Museum and Storehouse in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which recently reopened.
Awarded an MBE for services to museums is Anastasia Tennant, senior policy adviser in the collections and cultural property team at the Arts Council, who provides advice and guidance across its statutory cultural property responsibilities.
Also awarded an MBE for services to museums is Kirsten Walker, a member of the Horniman’s Senior Management Team responsible for conservation, documentation, exhibitions and the management of the Horniman’s estate across two sites.
The Foundling Museum‘s vice president James Robert Dominic Korner was awarded a OBE for services to philanthropy and to charity.
The director of Gainsborough’s House, Mark Bills, has been awarded an MBE for services to Art, to Museums and to the community in Suffolk.
For services to Culture in Exeter, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum manager and cultural lead
The Museum of the Home’s head gardener Heather Louise Stevents was awarded a BEM services to heritage and to gardening.
The Solway Aviation Museum‘s founder Douglas Kerr was awarded a MBE for services to aviation heritage.
The Royal Museums Greenwich‘s executive director of business and operations Christopher Brook Walker was awarded a MBE for services to culture.
Awards in the heritage sector
Recognising services to the heritage sector, OBEs were awarded to David Dewar Storrar, head of Edinburgh Region at Historic Environment Scotland, Susan Linda Wilkinson trustee and chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, Churches Conservation Trust.
The Churches Conservation Trust‘s former regeneration officer Elanor Johnson was awarded a BEM for services to heritage and the community in the North East.
The National Heritage Memorial Fund‘s trustee and deputy chair Marjory Macfarlane was awarded a MBE for services to heritage.
The Time Team‘s creator and producer Timothy David Taylor was awarded a MBE for services to archaeology and heritage.
Doncaster Council‘s heritage and culture transformation lead William Mchugh was awarded a MBE for services to local government, heritage and to the community in South Yorkshire.
Volunteers recognised
Awarded a BEM in this year’s list were three museum volunteers. Imperial War Museum North volunteers Colin John Parker Norma Goeghegan, Gordon Highlanders Museum volunteer James Gleninie and Tate and Foundling Museum volunteer Mary Hope Maidment were recognised for their services.
