Kids in Museums has launched a new maths resource this week created in collaboration with Maths on Toast with support from MathWorks to help museum professionals develop their own family learning activities round maths.

The charity behind Takeover Day and the Family Friendly Museum Award believes maths is an important subject for everyone, but in the UK maths skills lag behind literacy skills, with at least a quarter of the population saying they don’t feel confident about maths.

“There are many myths about maths that stop people from engaging with the subject and parents often lack the confidence to support their children with maths outside school,” it says. “Our new resource aims to break down these barriers. It provides inspiration and practical tips to help you find the maths in your collection and develop creative and fun family learning activities.”
