Heritage Fund asks grant recipients to share social media selfies on 19 November thanking National Lottery players for funding their projects.

Heritage organisations are being invited to participate in Crossed Finger Selfie Day on Wednesday 19 November by posting crossed finger selfies across social media platforms to thank National Lottery players for making their heritage projects possible.

The Heritage Fund is encouraging thousands of funded organisations to share images featuring staff, volunteers, heritage sites or the fund’s branding alongside messages about their projects. Participants should tag @HeritageFundUK on Instagram and Twitter/X, @The National Lottery Heritage Fund on Facebook and LinkedIn, and use the hashtag #BecauseOfYou.

The date marks the 31st birthday of both the Heritage Fund and The National Lottery, commemorating the first day National Lottery tickets went on sale in 1994. Since then, the fund has invested £8.9bn raised by National Lottery players in more than 48,000 heritage projects across the UK.

A toolkit with suggested social media posts has been made available for download. The Heritage Fund has scheduled additional promotional opportunities throughout the year, including Heritage Treasures Day on 12 January 2026 and National Lottery Open Week from 7 to 15 March 2026.
