‘For Us All’: Herefordshire museums and galleries reveals new identities

Herefordshire Council has launched a new public-facing identity – ‘Herefordshire Museums & Galleries’ – alongside the renaming of two of its key venues.

The former Herefordshire Museum Service has been renamed to Herefordshire Museums & Galleries, alongside two of the sites it manages.

The Council said the move “marks a strong commitment” to “renewed investment in culture”, at a time when “many local authorities are scaling back”.

Its new logo incorporates the words ‘For Us All’.

The move coincides with an ongoing redevelopment of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery.

The Black and White House Museum has returned to its original name, The Old House Hereford, a move it said acknowledges the museum’s  “historic identity and strong community recognition.”

The Museum Resource and Learning Centre has been renamed The History Store, which the council said would help to “demystify its role as a collections and research hub with increasing public access.”

The changes were delivered as part of the Heritage Reimagined – Revitalising Hereford’s Heritage project, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and led by the Herefordshire Museum Service Support Group, their Friends organisation.

Damian Etheraads, Museum and Art Gallery Lead at Herefordshire Council, said the rebrand “brings all our public-facing work under one banner and invites more people to engage with what we offer.

“At a time when cultural investment is under threat in many places, Herefordshire is backing its museums – and that sends a powerful message.”
