Elmwood Projects builds Warrior Treasure exhibition at Royal Armouries

Elmwood Projects were proud to be involved in the Royal Armouries Warrior Treasure Exhibition in Leeds – even more so with the finished result

As you can see from the time-lapse footage of our build, we were working in a reasonably tight space, however, we managed to coordinate the project as such that we achieved a first class level our workmanship, whilst delivering to a challenging timescale – successfully.

The exhibition contains the Staffordshire Hoard – a dazzling collection of pieces from more than 3,500 Anglo Saxon gold and silver military ornaments, many studded with garnets. The touring exhibition consists of roughly 100 of these objects and focuses predominantly on sword fittings found within the hoard.

Of particular interest to the Royal Armouries is the prevalence of exquisitely wrought ornaments from these weapons. These reveal how an Anglo Saxon warrior’s sword was more than just a weapon: it also signified his status, wealth, family and religious beliefs.
