The Manchester museum is now hiring for a successor after 14 years
The Director of People’s History Museum in Manchester has stood down from the position after 14 years in the role.
Katy Ashton joined the Manchester museum in 2010, and has previously worked at the National Railway Museum, Royal Engineers Museum, Leeds Museums and Galleries, and as Director of the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law. She is a Trustee of Queer Britain.
Taking to LinkedIn to make the announcement, Ashton wrote: “14 years ago I joined the amazing team at the People’s History Museum and now it’s time for me to say goodbye to the most amazing museum and the most amazing team!
“It’s been quite a ride over the years with so many highlights, successes and achievements… and some challenges and difficult times too. I’ve loved every minute and always been SO proud to be the Director of PHM – it really is the best job ever.”
On the recruitment of a successor, Ashton said: “It’s an amazing job and I can’t wait to see who is going to lead the museum on the next part of its journey.”
The museum’s newly published job advertisement said it is “seeking an inspiring and motivational leader with a proven track record of advocacy, networking and stakeholder engagement, as we look to build our profile in the city region and also nationally and internationally.”
Ashton has not yet announced next steps but said “details on my new role to follow soon”.
