Museum on the Wardwick hosts 12-hour tattooing session with designs inspired by collections as part of Halloween programming

Derby Museums will host live tattooing in a museum setting for the first time this autumn, marking the 25th anniversary of Derby’s Lifetime Tattoo studio. The event forms part of the organisation’s ‘Halloween Weekender’ at the Museum on the Wardwick, the city’s former central library.

Eight artists who have worked at Lifetime Tattoo studio during their careers will participate in a 12-hour tattooing session on Saturday 1 November from 11am to 11pm. The artists will create designs inspired by Derby Museums’ collections, including nature, archaeology, Joseph Wright paintings and industrial objects. Tattoo designs will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The participating artists are Ben Stone, Jonn Evans, J Fletcher Fallows, Alex Johnson, Lydia Wakefield, Theresa Gordon-Wade, Gerry Carnelly and Jennifer Akinyemi.

Dr Alex Rock, Derby Museums’ director of commercial and operations, said: “The history and heritage of tattooing is fascinating, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the unique contribution all of the Lifetime artists have made to Derby in this groundbreaking event.

“What’s not to love about a 12-hour tattooing session? It’s a great way to make use of our revamped Museum on the Wardwick space and provide an alternative night (and day) out in Derby.”

The two-day will provide the only opportunity for visitors to view all designs and pre-book tattoo slots for the following day.
