Oxford City Council commissioned City-Insights to enhance Oxford’s new information signs with digital cultural and heritage interpretation and visitor information. The signs were designed by Placemarque and will appear around the city during September 2012.
To deliver this landmark project in one of the UK’s most vibrant and historic cities, City-Insights developed OXFORDEXPLORE.COM, a free multimedia smartphone tour. All online content is devised around the new city signs and provides interpretation that explains and explores places within view at each spot.
This site-specific content is accessed via QR codes or URL entry, both of which appear on the signs. The site also offers destination guidance, recommending nearby events and activities around each sign which might interest residents and visitors.
City-Insights worked closely with many local organisations to integrate archive films, photos and contemporary interviews into this highly accessible site.
This enables OXFORDEXPLORE.COM to give a voice to the city’s most exciting stories, colourful inhabitants and cultural hotspots.City-Insights has been delighted to deliver a new way to know Oxford, offering interpretation for a digital and information age.
