Anonymous Museum Director to share thoughts on life in the industry

Advisor’s new feature will see an unnamed Museum Director share their candid thoughts about their job and the industry.

Advisor today publishes the first in a new series of content written by an anonymous Museum Director.

‘The Secret Museum Director’ will be published monthly, and the unnamed contributor will share their candid thoughts, opinions and challenges.

It will detail the highs and lows of running a museum, the challenges faced by the sector at large, and the difficult questions posed by the sector.

In the first installment, the Secret Museum Director asks ‘Are we OK?’, as they detail the emotional toll of meeting growing expectations.

From their first entry, they write: “It is so hard to leave the Museum behind once the doors are locked and the alarms are on. It follows me home, as I plan events and exhibitions and the next steps, as I worry about board reports, and capital funding and cost of living. It comes with me on holiday, as I take pictures of great interpretation, and plan trips around key museums.”

The first installment of the feature is now live and can be read here.
