The Stratford-upon-Avon cottage, once home to Shakespeare’s wife, will be open throughout 2025 with extended programming.
Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, part of a group of Shakespeare family homes in Stratford-upon-Avon, is to become a year-round attraction after a successful trial reopening earlier this year.
The historic attraction in Shottery will now remain open this winter and will operate a 12-month opening model from 2025.
The independent charity that cares for the group of properties, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, said “incredible feedback from audiences and industry colleagues” had informed the decision, adding, “ we feel we are in the best position to explore a year-round opening of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage.”
“It also comes at an important time for us, as we come to the end of the first year of our multi-year project, ‘The Women Who Made Shakespeare’ we can continue to celebrate the legacy and impact of Anne on the Shakespeare story with more people.”
Several roles have been created to support the extended opening of the cottage, once home to William Shakespeare’s wife.
The Trust said it is exploring new seasonal programming at the property, including some special Christmas activities at its newly opened Garden Café, set to remain open until Christmas as part of a trial.
Rachael North, director of Museum and Public Programmes for the Trust, said: “Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful gardens and orchards as well as the intimate rooms and spaces inside the cottage. We’ve got some exciting plans coming together for Christmas and beyond, and I know the team can’t wait to share them!”
