About Stagetext

About Stagetext

1 in 3 adults in the UK are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing – that’s 18 million potential customers you could be excluding and a significant audience that many venues are not reaching. Stagetext can help you change that.

Stagetext is a deaf-led UK charity and the country’s leading provider of text-based deaf access to arts and culture. Founded in 2000, we help museums, galleries and cultural venues create genuinely inclusive experiences deaf, deafened and hard of hearing visitors.

Our Services for Museums and Heritage

Live Subtitles for Talks and Tours
Whether you’re hosting a curator-led talk, an exhibition tour, a panel discussion or a Q&A, Stagetext provides real-time live subtitles delivered by expert human speech-to-text reporters (STTRs) with up to 300 words per minute and 99% accuracy. We only use humans, not AI.
Subtitles can be displayed on screens or handheld devices for tours, so visitors can engage with both the speaker and the space around them. We also cover live subtitles for online events and hybrid talks via Zoom or other streaming platforms.
Every project is tailored to your venue — we handle everything, so you can focus on your event. Your event will also be promoted free of charge on the Stagetext listings page.

Digital Subtitles for Pre-Recorded Content

If your venue produces exhibition trailers and recorded talks to social media clips and educational films, we can make your video content fully accessible. Our expert human subtitlers work to best-practice accessibility standards — including off-screen sound descriptions, speaker cues and music information. Subtitles are delivered as open captions (ideal for exhibition displays) or closed captions (ideal for online video).
