The Sprite 4K interactive digital media player
The Sprite 4K, model: DV-S4, interactive digital media player is designed and built for demanding applications such as information display, automated announcements, interactive entertainment and digital signage in museums, heritage centres, art galleries and themed visitor attractions. With no moving parts, it is a low-cost, solid-state, reliable replacement for aging DVD and obsolete Laserdisc players. Since its introduction in 2023, over 1000 Sprite 4Ks have been supplied by Garland Digital to satisfied customers in the UK and Europe.
The Sprite 4K is 100% plug-compatible and media compatible with the original and incredibly reliable predecessor, the Sprite, model: DV-S1, media player that has been used successfully in the same environments and applications for many years.
The Sprite 4K plays ultra-high definition (4K), high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) digital video and high-quality digital audio continuously and seamlessly or under control via a push-button switch, a PIR motion sensor or serial data from a computer or show controller. The Sprite 4K is easy to set up via its remote control and on-screen menu and does not require any programming. Video and audio media files are stored on and played from a standard micro-SD memory card or a USB memory stick inserted into the player.
The interactive capabilities of the Sprite 4K can be dramatically increased by connecting the Hydra Input / Output expander unit. The Hydra enables the Sprite 4K to accept up to 25 push-button switch inputs, up to 8 outputs that drive relays, LEDs, etc. and DMX512 – the industry standard for professional lighting and effects control. New firmware features include improved synchronisation between any number of Sprite 4K players, support for ultra-wide display devices, display rotation, support for USB barcode and RFID readers, operating modes for games, escape rooms and puzzle-solving applications. A custom programming service for the Hydra is also available.
